Yesterday I went to a CLIP College Hour in S112. I listened to three presentations. There were about domestic violence, sexual harassment and plagiarism. I think those are important to us. When we happen it, we will know how to solve problem.
First, we looked at the power point that explain what domestic violence is and the definition is an abusive behavior when one hits another and it always happens in a relationship such as marriage, dating, family. And we watched a video that is a play. This play happened in a family. The husband was hitting the wife when he got angry. One day, the son watched and when he came to his grandfather’s house, he was hitting his bear. The grandfather was surprised that he was hitting the bear. And he asked why he was doing that. The son mentioned that his father was beating the mother. The grandfather wondered if his son was abusing his wife. So, he told this situation to her daughter, and let her to help the wife. They called 311 to get information. And the police officers helped them. From this video, I learned that if you experience domestic violence, you need to ask for help, otherwise, it won’t get stop. And we also looked at some pictures about the sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is the unwelcome or inappropriate sexual language. It mentioned that men can harass women, women can harass men, men can harass men and women can harass women. And finally, the librarian was telling us plagiarize was really a bad thing. Plagiarism is copying other people’s ideas, language, thoughts, or expressions, and taking other people’s representations. If you plagiarize other people’s papers, you may get expire from the college. She also told us how to cite if you wanted to use the ideas from books, the internet, and magazines and so on. It is important that we learn how to cite when we write essays or papers. From those three presentations, we learned how to get a better environment for us to study in the college and the society.
Class visit
I visited English 101 and the professor is Byas. It starts on 12:10 and ends on 1:50. The topic that she discussed was practice punctuation. She gave us a punctuation exercise, an essay named “Mrs. Ramjit comes to America” and paper draft. I understand the lesson. The teacher is easy to understand. Of course I enjoy the lesson because this lesson is new for me. I would recommend this class to other students.
